Your Privacy Policy

A lot of people are concerned today about privacy.

They don’t want to give you their email address and other information, and fear that you’ll sell the names to spammers or outside marketers. And they want to feel secure about giving you their addresses and credit card information.

A privacy notice addresses those concerns.

It’s more than a concern

If you’re taking orders online, the credit card companies insist you have a privacy policy in effect, and that you secure your website to protect the credit card numbers and other information customers give you.

There’s a model privacy notice available, and you can adapt your from theirs. Go to TRUSTe and click on “Model Privacy Disclosures.”

*Note: As a small firm, you may feel like you don’t need to join their organization (which starts at about $1000), and that’s fine. It’s still a good model for you to see.

Terms of Use

As noted in the book, your “Terms of Use” may be important, too. Look at the terms of use used by websites similar to the one you’re putting together. Pick out the important pieces, then take it to your attorney to finish up.
